Electrical Engineer (Extensive Travel Required)

  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or Equivalent

    • Preferred, but open to other levels of education


Job Duties:

  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and modifies production of electronic components, parts, equipment, and systems in remote emissions testing and vehicle detection equipment.

  • Deployment of remote sensing equipment.

  • Coordinates with engineers to ensure proper operation and performance of emission testing equipment.

  • Performs installation, operation, modification, repair, and test of remote emissions testing hardware and software.

  • Troubleshoots, isolates, and repairs or replaces electrical components pertaining to equipment.

  • Sets up and performs tests to evaluate the performance and reliability of prototypes or production models.

  • Accesses and interprets system schematics, and electrical and mechanical engineering drawings.

  • Uses specific mathematical skills to find voltage, current, and resistance (Ohm’s Law); find frequency, compute amplifier gain, and utilize various formulae required for accurate analysis of electronic circuitry at the component level.

  • Performs various tests and report results as required by engineering.

  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Will be required to work around high-powered lasers (IR mostly - invisible to the human eye) and household voltage (120V) on a daily basis.

  • Domestic and international travel required- about 40% of the time.



  • Must have 5-7 years of Electrical Engineering experience

  • Must be a self-starter

  • Must be an innovative thinker who takes initiative and is able to take on projects with little guidance while maintaining cost-control measures

  • Must be able to think quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • Must have basic solder skills

  • Must have the ability to use a volt/ammeter and an oscilloscope

  • Must have knowledge of mechanics and optics

  • Technical knowledge/proficiency of AutoCAD and AutoCAD viewers is a plus.

  • Must be able to interpret schematics

  • Programming skills, C++, Linux

  • Knowledge of PLC Programming and operation a plus

  • Must be able to troubleshoot to the component level

  • Must be able to understand and apply AC/DC theory.

  • Position requires basic skills in Microsoft Office programs: Excel, Word, Outlook

  • Familiar with Microsoft and UNIX operating systems.

  • Knowledge of LAN-based communication technologies (TCP/IP, routing, remote desktop, VNC) preferred

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues, perform root-cause analysis, keep logs of issues detected in the field, and assist engineering with fielding software/ hardware fixes

  • Must be able to exhibit and practice professional and courteous behavior while interacting with both internal and external customers

  • Must be able to interact with a cooperative environment through beneficial behaviors, commitment to common goals, contribution to problem-solving, communication of ideas and suggestions, and encouragement of other employees/ departments

  • Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks

  • Able to adhere to a work schedule including prompt and regular attendance

  • Able to lift 50 pounds occasionally

  • Experience towing and maneuvering small trailers (i.e., a boat trailer)

  • Must have a clean driving record

  • Must be able to adjust to early morning/late night schedules on jobs when installing equipment


Additional Desired Skills (not required):

  • Knowledge and understanding of software development and various languages including C++, Linux, Java, PHP, Python, SQL, and Cloud-based Services, etc...

  • Knowledge of optics and lasers

  • Knowledge of vehicles, engines, and/or exhaust systems
