ENGINEERING OPERATIONS MANAGER

(TRAVELING POSITION)

Hager Environmental and Atmospheric Technologies (HEAT), headquartered in Knoxville, TN, is searching for an Engineering Program Manager who is hands-on, multifaceted and has experience in various disciplines of engineering (mechanical, electrical, & civil) along with a desire to travel up to 50% of the time (Domestic & International) and lead a team in the field.

HEAT is a cutting-edge environmental company with an exciting, one-of-a-kind NASA spinoff technology used to detect and measure on-road vehicle emissions. HEAT is making an impact worldwide with this groundbreaking remote sensing device and is building an engineering team to meet the demands of a growing client base.

Our preferred candidate should be creative and have an eagerness to work with an exciting technology in a small company atmosphere. They should be very comfortable with guiding and leading a team in a fast-paced environment while meeting tight deadlines and maintaining stellar cost control measures. The ideal candidate must be able to wear many different hats and be able to contribute to a range of projects.

The ideal candidate must:

  • Plan, direct, own an entire project with limited supervision.

  • Provide outstanding communication and manage a team to achieve the goals of the project on time within budget.

  • Communicate effectively with operations, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors, while being knowledgeable, courteous, and trustworthy.

  • Proactively evaluate the needs of the program, task assignments, increase productivity, coordinate, and collaborate to motivate and produce quality work.

  • Successfully supervise and assign tasks to multiple team members, subcontractors, and vendors.

  • Advanced knowledge of multiple areas of engineering and able to apply practical knowledge successfully.

  • Advanced knowledge of software and able to navigate new software specific to proprietary technology.

  • Perform required daily reporting, as well as intermediate knowledge of Smart Phones.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and able to manage multiple shifts and communicate in great detail.

  • Willing to train, self-perform and inspect to ensure work is completed with the highest quality passing inspections and exceeding customer expectations.

  • Provide positive coaching and training while motivating the team to produce quality work and ensure all safety standards are met with all individuals on the job site.

  • Be a goal and results oriented person.

 

The role requires:

  • 5-10+ years of experience

  • 2-6 years in a team lead role

  • Advanced skill in supervision and leadership

  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record

  • Clean background and drug screen

  • Ability to tow and maneuver a small trailer (i.e. a boat or u-haul trailer)

  • Able to travel 50% of time

  • Focused and high work standards that mirror the organization’s standards of excellence

  • Ability to be resilient and resourceful with time and prioritization

  • Advanced knowledge of tools and equipment

  • Advanced ability to understand scope of work, estimate time involved, and take initiative with fundamental scheduling changes to minimize cost and time

  • Advanced knowledge of technology and reporting

  • Must be willing to work out of town for multiple weeks in a row

  • Personal effectiveness with integrity and accountability

  • Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

  • Able to interpret a variety of instructions deal with abstract and concrete variables.

  • Contribution to legacy projects while able to suggest innovative solutions

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.

  • A minimum of 5 years of previous Project Management experience of engineering projects

  • Previous supervision/project management experience

  • Able to read and interpret documents, calculations, engineering drawings, etc

 

Additional Desired Skills (not required):

  • Knowledge of Optics, Lasers, and/or have a Scientific Background

  • Knowledge of vehicles, engines, and/or exhaust systems

  • Machining

  • Solidworks

  • Strong Electrical and/or Mechanical Skillset
