I think it is safe to say that no one likes waiting in line at the smog station. Twitter can tell you that much by doing a quick “hashtag” search. Even taking a quick glance at the faces around you while waiting in line to get on the “car treadmill,” as one tweeter called the dynamometer, you can see the annoyance exuding from the drivers. Many posts show cars backed up around the station and people talking about the inconvenience of having to take off work and use precious vacation time to perform a necessary and required service by the local government.
What if I told you that you could skip the line and still have your emissions testing done?
With the EDAR system you can! If the EDAR Remote Sensing system were to be installed in your city you can have your emissions tested while on your daily commute without even skipping a beat. EDAR uses a laser-based technology that scans down on to the roadway from a pole and the device is able to detect environmentally critical gases being released from the tailpipe of vehicles such as Carbon Monoxide, Carbon Dioxide, Nitrogen Oxide, and Hydrocarbons. Many programs focus on rewarding the cleanest cars on the road by saving them a trip to the smog station. A letter is sent in the mail to drivers to let them know that their car was seen by the EDAR unit and to submit the yearly fee to receive their emissions sticker; skipping the smog station all together.
Now, wouldn’t that make life a little bit easier?
Write or call your local legislator and let them know that you are ready to stop sitting in line, and you would like to see HEAT’s EDAR system installed in your city. Also, be sure to follow us on Twitter @heatrsd and tweet to us.
